Our clients lived in this house for many years, raising their children there. They certainly had a feel for what worked and what didn’t when they decided to remodel. With the help of their Architect they reconfigured the majority of the first and second floor. This included a new kitchen space open to the Living room and a nice separate Wet Bar area.
Cabinets were specially designed to have an informal traditional feel. Cherry cabinets have a rubbed through and glazed finish helping with the feel that the kitchen has been in place for many years and still wearing beautifully. We designed a separate prep area to look like a hutch. All the details were thoughtfully considered. Pull out cutting boards with holes cut out for easy prep cleanup, countertop routed with drain boards, custom knife inserts to accommodate knives the client had for generations, a pot filler for easy fill up and a foot lever to open all trash bases. The island is Knotty cherry with visible knots and distressing. Locally sourced Virginia soapstone gives the kitchen a feel of authenticity to what is otherwise a traditional and established neighborhood. We installed a steam oven and a regular oven which works well with the clients healthy cooking.
