The previous builder-grade kitchen felt drab and heavy even for a space flooded with natural light. We set out to create a bright, open kitchen with clean lines, but also giving a nod to the home’s original 1920 character.
Instead of immediately going to a white painted cabinet in order to achieve a bright kitchen, we decided to focus on warmer materials in a white oiled rift white oak and a walnut island. The walnut island was built as a custom freestanding piece with open shelf storage below. We were able to keep the walls open for tile without sacrificing storage by adding floating shelves and two tall cabinets flanking the windows. The shelving and hood apron are made with hot rolled steel.
The desk area adjacent to the kitchen adds a pop of color in Amazon Green from Benjamin Moore while tying into the kitchen with a walnut countertop and planked backsplash.
