The existing layout in this large bathroom worked well however its style was very dated. The shower was surrounded by a wall on one side and a half wall on the other. It needed to be opened up so that light could filter in. We were also able to make it a bit larger. The toilet room was enclosed with walls which visually weighted down that corner of the room. The tub surround was very large, most likely because there was so much space that needed to be used. We decided to open up the shower and the toilet room using semi-frosted glass enclosures. Since this visually opened up the entire room, we handled this by separating the room into three zones – the bathing area, the lavatory area and the shower/toilet area. These three spaces were defined by the change in tile on the floor along with the wood slat panels. These wood slat panels helped to warm up the room visually and acoustically. The new lights add shape and interest to the space. In the bathing area we opted for a free standing tub and chose cabinets in a dark finish that closely matches the floor tile. This mirrors the dark wall tiles in the shower that are on the floor, walls and ceiling. The entire composition creates a beautiful spa-like space that finally makes sense.
• Three distinct zones that meld together nicely
• Full glass enclosures for the shower and the toilet room
• Wood slat accent panels to blend with the wood-like tiles in the shower
• Hidden make up area mirroring a large linen cabinet.
• A unique combination of large format porcelain panels and tiles.
