Kitchen

This kitchen was designed for an Arlington, Va., condominium town house. The clients, a young professional couple, wanted a contemporary styled living space more conducive to casual entertaining. The new space was created by removing the wall between the existing kitchen and the dining area and part of the foyer. The existing locations of the sink and range were not changed, but opening up the space allowed for a large island/eating bar which comfortably accommodates 4 or more people. The home owners are wine enthusiasts and wanted somewhere to store their collection. We decided to make the wine storage a decorative element within the new space by creating the wall hung serving piece opposite the eating bar end of the island. The existing color schemes in the home showed a preference for strong, dramatic colors. Red is the favorite color of one of the owners, so it was decided red would feature prominently in the new design. Iron Red granite was selected, along with Absolute Black with a Leather finish, for the counter and eating bar surfaces. With gloss black cabinets and the oak floor stained Ebony, a glamorous space has been created reflecting the home’s bold character.
