Bethesda, MD
This charming Bethesda home had a kitchen that was in need of an upgrade with more storage, functionality, and a defined breakfast area. While the style of the home is eclectic, the goal of this remodel was to modernize the space without compromising the warm and welcoming feel that it offers.
We achieved the desired look by combining different door styles, textures, and colors in the kitchen. The strategic placement of the dark blue tall cabinets against the light wood cabinets creates a nice contrast without making the space feel dark. The metal shelves also open up the sink wall and create an added layer of under cabinet lighting in that work area.
The kitchen also features a tall cabinet next to the refrigerator that serves as a combination workstation and pantry. It has retractable doors, outlets, and a quartz countertop inside the cabinet to create a working surface when preparing a cup of coffee or a snack.
The orientation of the island was also changed to improve the fluidity of the kitchen. The cooktop was moved to the island and a ceiling-mounted hood was installed to maintain an open feel in the space. The benefit of changing the island orientation was that it allowed for a kitchen table and a chandelier to be placed in the breakfast area. This resulted in a better connection between the two spaces.
