Bath

The original master bathroom was dark, traditional and felt completely out of place in the airy mid-century modern home.  The home is perched on a hilltop with large windows throughout the main level, overlooking the trees.  You get an immediate closeness to nature when walking into the home.

We wanted to create that same reflection of nature in the master bathroom.  When walking into the master bathroom, your eye is drawn to the large picture window overlooking the treetops at the end of the bathroom.  The feature wall to the left is clad in a handcrafted ceramic tile with a blue/green dimensional flower design that mimics the trees outside of the window.  The hand glazing makes each tile unique, creating an organic wall of tile.  On the opposite wall, the Dolce Vita vanity countertop and backsplash follows dramatic veining up the wall.  The teak flyover shelf ties in with the homes’ window trim and brings a natural warmth to the bathroom.

The previous shower and tub were both generously sized, but boxed in and dark.  The shower was completely enclosed with a tile and glass while the massive tub with built in surround enveloped the room.  We took a more open approach to the bathroom.  Instead of boxing in a large tub, we kept it freestanding and with the shower, we took out an extra tile wall, glass enclosures, and the shower curb.  The shower now only has one glass panel, but otherwise completely open to the tub and the rest of the room.

The vanity cabinetry is floating from the floor with ambient lighting underneath and around the medicine cabinets.  The vanity includes u-shaped drawers around the sink plumbing, giving extra storage, much needed storage.  The wall cabinet is a bi-fold tilt up with open, floating shelves beneath for easy to access towel storage.
