Bethesda, MD
This drab builder grade kitchen located in Bethesda, MD needed a major upgrade in materials and layout. The client wanted the space to feel open but also to remove as much countertop clutter as possible. By borrowing 2 feet from the oversized dining room behind the existing kitchen, we were able include full depth cabinets along the 2 sides of the kitchen, expanding the work triangle and increasing storage space. On either side of the cooktop, the cabinetry hides unsightly countertop appliances and clutter. The tall pantries flanking this cabinet run expand the kitchen’s storage.
The kitchen includes an abundance of tall closed cabinets, perfect for keeping the clutter to a minimum. The high gloss white materials reflects the natural light that streams into the kitchen, which keeps the space feeling open and bright. The island and perimeter base cabinets ground the kitchen in a darker oak melamine.
With the cooktop moved to the wall opposite the family room, it gave a perfect opportunity for a feature tile backsplash. Ann Sack’s Beau Monde Rita mosaic backsplash tile introduces a nod to a mid-century modern aesthetic while pairing well with the high gloss white cabinetry.
The expanded kitchen space also made room for an expansive island, perfect for prepping large meals or entertaining. The island includes a built in walnut waterfall table for every day family dining.
