Kitchen

After completing several renovations on the upper level of their home, the Byers family decided it was time to refresh their kitchen. Having lived with the space for some time, they identified several issues—most notably, the outdated French Country aesthetic that no longer aligned with their vision.

Mrs. Byers, a California native with a deep appreciation for mid-century modern design, drew inspiration from Heath Ceramics, a San Francisco-based company known for its clean lines and stunning glazes. These iconic tiles became a cornerstone of the kitchen's transformation, bringing a blend of timeless elegance and modern simplicity to the space.

While the overall layout remained mostly unchanged, we reconfigured key elements to enhance openness and functionality. We positioned the tall components—refrigerator, freezer, pantry, and oven—along one wall, maintaining a streamlined, spacious feel in the narrow kitchen. A long island was added to serve as both a casual dining space for their son and a practical storage solution.

As both homeowners are passionate cooks, we designed two distinct work zones: one for cleanup and prep, and another for cooking, which includes a double sink for added convenience. To maintain a clutter-free look, we integrated a built-in coffee station within the pantry, keeping countertops clear and organized.

The minimalist aesthetic is further reflected in the choice of high-quality materials. Walnut interiors complement a blend of Architectural Wood veneer and painted MDF for the cabinetry, while Caesarstone countertops ensure both beauty and durability for everyday use.
