The original basement was dark and segmented into several awkward rooms that didn’t serve a useful purpose to the family. We took a fresh look at the entire basement and reorganized the space to maximize functionality and minimize the feeling of being in a basement. With this being a basement of an older home, we had to get creative about concealing the functional elements of a basement. We created a bench seat next to the fireplace to conceal the sump pump, pulled forward the built-in cabinets to allow for ducting space and opened up all the soffits to reduce the height and width where possible. The outcome was much more airy, open space, perfect for family gatherings.
