Eclectic Kitchen in Chevy Chase, Maryland
One thing this homeowner knew was that she needed more storage and a place where she could whip up nightly meals and her kids could take turns baking. Although we didn’t add a single square foot to this space we were able to add 25% more usable cabinets and create more separate work zones for multiple cooks in the kitchen. We took careful inventory of what they needed to keep in the kitchen and everything has a place.
We moved the cooktop to the island and added a wood cherry chopping block to the end of the island to increase function. Large drawers underneath hold pots and pans. This freed the peninsula up to those who are seated there and used to compete with cooktop space. Large pantry cabinets and oven storage was moved to the far wall and set into a drywall alcove.
The client trusted us to incorporate her favorite colors into the kitchen; blue and orange but wasn’t specific on how we should do that. A pop of camel leather was added to the bar stools and the cherry wood butcher block and cheerful blue was introduced to recessed pantry cabinets and the island. The windswept, distressed finish on the tall panty and fridge surround add a level of warmth and ease and don’t feel heavy against the alcove walls. The kitchen is completely open to the family room but feel like an extension on the space.
