Rockville, Maryland
Situated in an elegant suburban enclave, the original kitchen had plenty of floor space and good connectivity to the casual dining area and family room, but it lacked a strong focal point. It was a little too casual and encouraged visual clutter on the countertops. The homeowners yearned for a space that was not stiff but one that exuded tidiness and order, to match the rest of the house.
Situating the integrated refrigerator at the end of the sink wall freed up space for a Miele 48” cooktop and a tailored hood, forming a focal point. A mosaic stone backsplash and stainless potfiller also draws the eye to this feature wall. Deep drawers flank the cooktop, storing heavy pots and pans within easy reach.
Refrigerator drawers in the island opposite the sink augment the main refrigerator and help keep foods separated in this kosher kitchen. Dual dishwasher drawers to the left of the sink allow for small loads to be cleaned efficiently. The full-size dishwasher on the right of the sink handles larger loads.
The family loves the coffee bar, tucked discreetly behind folding doors that retract out of the way yet hide clutter when closed. The cabinetry wraps around the corner to visually expand the kitchen without changing the original footprint. The armoire’s furniture-style base and integrated lighting gives the family orderly display space.
