Bath

Stunning Bathroom in Washington, DC At a little over 72 square feet, this master bath was not large and it lacked storage.Originally, a small corner shower was crammed into one corner with the toilet beside it. The homeowners wanted to create an Asian-inspired oasis and sought to bring more natural light into their master bedroom. Building a custom door with panels of translucent glass, reminiscent of a shoji screen, allows natural light to filter into the bedroom, even when it is closed. Barn door hardware lets the door slide discretely out of sight behind a shallow dresser in the bedroom, while preserving much-needed floor space in the bathroom.A wide vanity is augmented by a shallow, tall cabinet across from the toilet to provide ample storage. Two walls are clad in Crescent Sutra Black honed tile from Island Stone for a dramatic 3D effect. A teak soaking tub and countertop, antique brass fixtures and sculptural wall tiles add to the Zen-like aesthetic. The home is tucked away on a hillside, surrounded by a garden reminiscent of aJapanese tea garden. Renovations throughout the home have tastefully incorporated a subtle Asian aesthetic such as tall black frame windows and doors in the living room and a kitchen with a natural color palette and traditional Japanese cabinet hardware. The master bathroom renovation continues with these homeowners Asian-inspired design sense.
