Washington, DC
This Dupont Circle home was originally built in 1911 as a coach house. Although, it was transformed into a home some time ago, the structure was in need of a complete rehab.
The home’s eclectic past is a perfect fit for the homeowner’s eclectic style with antiques from all over the world. We set out to have the kitchen be a backdrop for and even incorporate their antiques!
The lines of kitchen were kept clean and contemporary while the material selection added the character and depth. The paneled refrigerator and base cabinets were painted a custom red with black glaze and light distressing that was inspired by their antique Chinese furniture. The red pops against the painted white pantry and hood cabinetry. The warm yellow chosen for the back painted glass backsplash was a custom color chosen based on yellows the client has seen in her travels to Morocco.
The island counter is a deep blue and the cabinetry is a charcoal grey which draws on the industrial aesthetic of the home. A custom waterfall countertop was created in order surround an antique Chinese cabinet that was repurposed to be used as additional kitchen cabinetry storage. It was strategically placed on the island end that you see as you walk in the front door and it sets the tone for the entire room.
