Light and Decorative Kitchen in Easton, MD

In our renovation, the walls adjacent to the sitting room fireplace place were cut back. This allowed for more light in the kitchen, space for a breakfast table, and a large pantry closet. One doorway was relocated so it would no longer align with the powder room door and an additional doorway was added to balance the room and create improved access to the kitchen.

In the new kitchen tall items like the refrigerator are located on the long wall adjacent to the hall. This includes a cabinet with retractable doors, which houses the microwave, coffee maker, and other small appliances. This composition, with lit glass cabinets above, is decorative as well as very functional. Other lit glass cabinets sit atop paneled wall cabinets and are used for the display of the owner’s collection of pottery and glass.

The new range and hood were re-positioned to create a focal point on the unused short wall. A wood apron on the hood and floating shelves that wrap the corner complement the white oak wood top of the island, a small appliance counter, and new hardwood floors.

Relocating the sink from the existing island to the unused outside wall allowed for a versatile table-like island with ample storage, space for food prep, and a large wood top perfect for entertaining. New sliding glass windows above the sink provide improved views of the water.
