Design by Sarah Turner in Ellicott City, MD

Our clients were building a significant house addition to a home they were going to transition into their primary house. This project was a collaboration with a noted Architectural Firm Vince Greene and Associates. Although JGKB usually works in remodeling spaces this was new construction, so there weren’t any of the typical design challenges we did need to incorporate the new kitchen space with an existing hallway and pantry.

Bar

Glass cabinets store the client’s vintage dishware. Slim metal-trimmed glass cabinets tuck into an alcove which keeps the walkway clear. Rift Oak base cabinets match the trim on the tall pantry cabinets on the parallel wall. Tall cabinets are installed flush inset into the wall alcove and fabricated with Eco Domo Leather door panels. Although all the finishes are monochromatic they are layered, varied, and textured. Custom hardware is made to match the leather on the pantry doors. At the Bar, we custom-created metal floating shelves with integrated LED lighting in the glass. This makes the glass appear as though it glows from within.

Kitchen

An interesting feature it the kitchen comes from the thickness of the existing walls to the exterior. We built a custom broom closet into the paneling that surrounds the entry doors. These are hidden and flush. The 2 islands create a work zone for the family and a seating island for guests. This family hosted multi-family gatherings with lots of people and multiple sources of seating were needed to accommodate. Recessed doors in the Breakfast area create a flush storage station that hides small appliances for coffee, smoothies, etc.

We incorporated Paldao Wood Veneer on the Morning smoothie & coffee station and paired this with glazed painted cabinets. The islands are a Pure Metal Paint, manufactured with real metal shavings. This adds depth and luster to the paint.  These neutral finishes we the backdrop for vibrant accent colors favored by the clients.
