Contemporary Kitchen in Potomac, MD

The once weighed down kitchen with dark, dated cabinetry has come to life with bright, modern materials. The clients wanted to completely transform their kitchen, flooring and sitting room with cleaner lines, lighter materials and a sophisticated design layout that also functioned for their busy family. The materials chosen were a mix of painted warm white and grey washed rift white oak cabinetry along with a dark grey back-painted glass-framed in polished stainless doors.
The flooring went from an orange/brown tone mix to a calming wide plank that complements the rift white oak cabinetry. A treated, and therefore quite durable, marble was chosen for the backsplash and countertops. When laying out the kitchen design, we focused on how to maintain an uncluttered kitchen without compromising an open airy feel to the kitchen. We took down an old exterior wall that separated the kitchen from the sitting room, which allowed for the natural light to flood into the once blocked off the kitchen.
The kitchen features 2 appliance storage locations where cabinet doors can slide easily out of way for easy access or to close off the unsightly appliances. The wall cabinets flanking the hood bi-fold and tilt up out of the way when cooking and close with a touch of a button. Below these cabinets, the backsplash slides out of the way to reveal additional spice storage. The bar, while very functional with a built-in coffee maker and wine cooler, also features an open shelf that allows the dramatic veining of the marble to flow up the wall.
